Real Mum Stories: Anne

Every few weeks we'll have a chat with a different mum or dad. They'll tell us how they manage to keep their life in balance; highlighting the struggles and the achievements. It's time to struggle together rather than just pretending to be okay and happy all the time, right?

This week I had a chat with Anne. She shared her thoughts and experiences about being a parent, what she finds the most important, and how she goes about raising happy kids.

What does your life look like at the moment?

I live in Copenhagen, alone with my 2 kids. My son will be 4 next month and my daughter is 8 months.

What's important to you when it comes to toys and playing?

At preschool they play with Marte Meo, which is something I try to work with at home. I really believe that toys have to have a function, and I prefer things that are organic. I want my kids to be creative and learn from their toys. I must admit I also want pretty things, which is why I love ByAlex playmats. They're functional, but also beautiful.

I actually just like sitting in the livingroom with both my kids, and we play with puzzles or other games. But reading to them is another one of my favourites, or watching a little bit of tv to relax.

As long as it's just us.

What do you find most important when it comes to your interior, especially in the playroom?

I want toys and furniture that my kids can play on and with, but also move around on. I love seeing them laugh, especially when we can laugh together. Next to their happiness, the products also need to be easy on the eye. I'm interested in fashion and interior, so things have to be pretty and blend in with the rest.

Another great thing for the playroom are paper bags to put the toys in, so that you can tidy up the space at the end of the day. But also hide the plastic toys that my son always begs for. Another win win situation for my kids and I.

How do you hope your kids will remember you when they're all grown up?

At the moment I'm in the middle of a divorce, and am scared that they will remember me as sad and crying. But aside from that, I think they would say that I am easy going and happy. Maybe a bit of a clean freak, but determined and always there for them.
